Console Vibe Score, 0–100: fan mood on X, evidence-adjusted. How it works

That is the biggest move we have recorded for any platform. We checked every published snapshot since the board started on September 4, 2026: 97 of them. The next largest was PlayStation's own 72.6-point fall on November 5. The Vibe Score tracks fan mood on X, not sales, and PlayStation's conversation in this snapshot was 80% positive with no negative share at all. It knocked Nintendo, which had led at 89.7, down to second.

Sony's results: fewer PS5s shipped, much more profit

Sony released its results for July to September 2026 on November 5. In its own filing, Sony's Game & Network Services segment, the PlayStation business, reported operating income of 220.1 billion yen, up from 120.4 billion yen a year earlier: an 83% increase. Part of that rise comes from comparison: a year earlier the segment booked one-off charges, including a 31.5 billion yen impairment on Bungie, that weren't repeated this quarter. Sales in the segment rose 9% to 1,208.5 billion yen.

Hardware went the other way. Sony shipped 2.6 million PS5 consoles in the quarter, compared with 4.0 million in the same period a year earlier (a revised figure), a drop of about 35%. These are shipments to stores, not sales to players. Total PS5 shipments now stand at 97.9 million.

Sony also raised its full-year forecast for the segment, lifting expected operating income from 660 billion yen to 700 billion yen.

Software helped carry the quarter. Sony estimates that Marvel's Wolverine, Insomniac Games' PS5 exclusive that launched on September 15, sold 2.4 million copies to players by November 4.

What people on X were saying about PlayStation

Much of the PlayStation conversation was people summing up the results, like this post listing the raised forecast, Wolverine's sales and the PS5 shipment drop.

Nintendo slipped 5.7 points to #2 (89.7 → 84.0). Its conversation was still entirely positive, led by The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on Switch 2, which launched on November 5, and by comments from Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa about the Switch 2 lineup.

Xbox climbed 8.8 points to #3 (58.9 → 67.7). Even with the gain it dropped a place, because PlayStation jumped past it. Xbox talk centered on Game Pass and a rebuilt Xbox PC app; one post relayed Xbox's claim that games launch faster for Insiders on the new version.

Steam fell 14.1 points to 26.0 and is now dead last. Its biggest topic was slower game approvals, as PC Gamer reported Valve saying it is running behind on reviewing new Steam games, alongside posts about how many new games now disclose AI-generated content.

What we couldn't verify

  • That Sony's results caused PlayStation's jump. They were the main PlayStation topic while the score rose. The Vibe Score measures mood, not causes.
  • Claims about Sony's next console. Several posts repeated statements about future hardware timing that we could not find in Sony's own documents, so we left them out.
  • Why PS5 shipments fell. Outlets offered reasons such as price increases and component costs, but Sony's figures alone don't say, so we don't either.

What's next for PlayStation on the board

PlayStation was also #1 on the morning of November 5 and fell to last a few hours later, so one snapshot at the top settles nothing. Vote for who won today's console war on the Console Wars dashboard, see how the score works, and check back after the next snapshot to see whether PlayStation holds #1.

How we score this. The Console Vibe Score tracks fan mood about PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo and Steam on X, refreshed twice a day and adjusted for how well each claim is backed up. It measures the conversation, not sales. Read the methodology or see the full snapshot behind this story.
